BABA YAGA

Personal Project

2016

A visual exploration of Slavic mythology and architectural history. Before the Christianisation of Europe turned her into a child-eating witch, scholars believe Baba Yaga was revered as a Forest Mother and Protector. This project reimagines her original form.

Central to her lore is a sentient hut that roams the forest on chicken legs. To design it, I drew heavily from Russian and Polish medieval wooden architecture, using traditional carved details to build a silhouette that mimics a bird, with legs formed from roots and branches. To complete the aesthetic, the logo concepts draw from Cyrillic, runic, and Germanic alphabets.
